Tragicomedia

In the 17th and 18th Centuries, the backbone of a lot of music is its continuo section. They’re the musicians who basically read a bass line with numbers to explain the chords, just like jazz players today read a lead sheet, and create an accompaniment to the music.

Stephen Stubbs has directed Tragicomedia since 1992. Tragicomedia is a dynamic group of experienced continuo players who are the musical backbone of operas and projects that Stubbs directs, and brings his team with him.
